Fort Worth can be characterized as country/cosmopolitan.  It has all the amenities of a big city, but maintains a small town feel.  The Dallas/Fort Worth area ranked number 9 in U.S. population according to the 2000 census, yet it’s a place that’s friendly and where folks smile for no other reason than to put you at ease.

Dancers in Fort Worth love to do the “Cotton Eyed Joe,” on the nights they aren’t attending the ballet (which is sponsored by our hospital).  Museum goers have some real choices.  They can enjoy the cowboy art of Fredric Remington or Charles Russell at the Amon Carter Museum one day or view the works of Fra Angelico, Caravaggio, Cezanne, and Matisse at the Louis Khan designed Kimbell Museum the next.  And the Kimbell also houses the largest Asian Art collection in the Southwest.  Most ironic is the “Modern” Art Museum – it is the “oldest” art museum in the state.

For some local favorites, you might just want to visit “Billy Bob’s Texas” for line dancing and a thick steak.  Fort Worth, after all, is one of those places where it’s OK to attend the opera in a tux complimented by ostrich skin cowboy boots.

In regards to basics, the income growth projected for Texas between 1988 and 2020 is 38.7 percent.  And rising incomes generally signal falling crime rates.  In the heart of the time period (1986-1996) Fort Worth’s overall crime rate, as could be expected, fell 56 percent.

Housing!  Be prepared to splurge or at least decompress.  These are not Silicon Valley prices, not are they New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago prices.  Dr. Ladi Haroona who recently joined us from a major New York teaching hospital laughs when he say’s, “the dog will no longer need to share the doghouse with the kids.”

If any has ever told you to “get a life,” and you’re looking forward to your internship or residency, we think you might just want to talk to us about a future with Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth.
